The Blue Pill; Wake up tomorrow, hit the snooze button and carry on as normal. No change. Let your life carry you on the same path it’s been taking over the past years.
The Red Pill; Shake it up. take control, and steer your life where you want it to go. Accept there will be difficult times ahead but the rewards you’re aiming for will be worth the effort.
If you’ve ever watched Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, you may remember the choice he’s offered by Morpheus early in the movie; Take the red pill or take the blue pill.
The blue pill represents the status quo, do nothing, stay where you are, and accept your current position in life, accept your fate, it’s out of your control and out of your hands.
Take this and he’ll wake up cosy in bed in the morning and nothing will have changed.
The red pill, however, represents a new look at reality. knowledge, the real truth. As Morpheus puts it: “You stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”
Of course, real life is not about pills, it’s about life choices. Does Neo accept the way his life is, or does he delve into a whole new world of possibilities, looking for something more, though no doubt not without considerable strife along the way?
Just Drifting Through Life?
According to Jeff Olson in The Slight Edge, about 95% of us stumble through life, winging it from day to day, year to year, to a large degree letting the ebb and flow of circumstance decide our path.
For most of my life, I was definitely in this 95%, not realising that by not making positive life choices for myself, I was, in fact, choosing mediocrity, just drifting (The Safe Blue Pill).
My Red Pill
A few years ago, watching videos on YouTube and dreaming about a new Electric car that I believed I would never own (I do now) 😁. When I came across a video talking about how my life could be very different.
I’d seen this sort BS before, but this young guy I was watching seemed to be down-to-earth and more real than the other Snake Oil Salesmen. Something about his simple message stirred my curiosity and caused me to want to find out more.
Could this be the red pill I’d been looking for?
Dan (the guy in the video), has since become a good friend of mine, and I thank him every day for showing me where to find my red pill, just at the point in my life when I was ready to accept/swallow it.
Since then, I’ve been a lot less lazy, striving to make a better life for myself, I’ve also found something I didn’t even know I was looking for “fulfillment” and I no longer resign myself to mediocrity. It’s been something of a rollercoaster and certainly no easy ride, but then working for something that’s worthwhile rarely is.
Back To The Choice
The Blue Pill; Wake up tomorrow, hit the snooze button and carry on as normal. No change. Let your life carry you on the same path it’s been taking.
The Red Pill; Shake it up. Steer your life where you want it to go. Accept there will be difficult times ahead but that the rewards you are aiming for will be worth the effort.
Open your eyes and see the reality. You don’t have to remain one of the 95%.
Me? I take the red pill, every day for the rest of my life.
No more Blues for me.
Here’s to Red Pills and the future you.
May I simply say what a comfort to discover somebody who genuinely knows what they are talking about over the internet. You actually understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More people ought to check this out and understand this side of the story. I cant believe you arent more popular because you surely possess the gift.
Thank you for your kind words, I’m glad you found the content of interest. I spend most of time mentoring hundreds of new students from all over the world, so don’t normally get time to blog.
